The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry is conducting a search for the Department Executive Officer (DEO)/Chair for the Department of Orthodontics
. This is a full-time clinical or tenure-track faculty at the full Professor level. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Dentistry.
- provide strong leadership to the department in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service;
- collaborate with collegiate leadership and administration;
- support faculty development and mentorship;
- maintain close cooperation with other departments;
- maintain an independent or collaborative research/scholarship program;
- actively participate in service activities at the collegiate, regional, and national levels;
- maintain an active involvement in the clinical/didactic teaching efforts of the department in Orthodontics at the pre/postdoctoral levels; and
- actively participate in the departmental faculty practice plan.
The position is available June 30, 2026; screening begins immediately.
Academic track, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicantsmust have
- D.D.S./D.M.D. or equivalent;
- completion of an CODA/CDAC-accredited advanced training program in Orthodontics;
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Orthodontics;
- record of effective teaching and mentoring of faculty and/or students;
- record of hypothesis/protocol-driven research and/or scholarly activity;
- record of success in acquiring extramural grant support;
- record of relevant administrative and leadership experience; and
- professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Ph.D. or equivalent;
- clinical practice experience;
- ability to foster collaborative interactions among faculty from different departments and colleges;
- demonstrated ability to develop new research initiatives; and
- demonstrated experience working effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
