The CT Technologist at the Freestanding Emergency Room and Urgent Care Clinic is responsible for performing CT procedures that are in accordance with standards and practice set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and Hospital Policies and Procedures. The role optimizes the use of radiation by utilizing the concepts of Image Gently and Image Wisely by the American College of Radiology.
The CT Technologist demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care/safety, positioning, principles of radiographic sciences, radiation protection, medication safety (contrast) and specialized techniques. The technologist maintains professional judgment and conduct that is complimentary of the ARRT Code of Ethics and St. David’s Healthcare Values.
- Demonstrates Excellence by consistently producing scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of the operating parameters of the scanners.
- Operates the CT scanners and related equipment efficiently and effectively.
- Follows established scanning protocols.
- Performs trauma, acute & challenging patient scans and modifies positioning and scanning factors when standard protocols cannot be performed.
- Communicates findings to the radiologist and adapts scans to pathology.
- Labels images correctly according to protocol.
- Tailors exams to patient age groups to provide optimal images.
- Performs CTA scans and retrospective reconstruction.
- Performs coronary scans and calcium scoring.
- Completes quality scans in a timely manner and prioritizes workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.
- Uses the power injector safely and adheres to guidelines for gauge/site and central venous catheter usage.
- Ensures the exam ordered and performed is entered correctly in Meditech and moved to TAKEN in PACS.
- Completes required documentation in PACS and Meditech.
- Obtains pertinent patient history and relays it to the radiologist.
- Ensures correct charging for medication/contrast and supplies.
