Overview
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership.
The AIT and Assistant Manager share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high level duties specific to that role, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Responsibilities- Sales Generation and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service
- Answer questions regarding store and merchandise
- Recommend, locate, and obtain merchandise based on Guest needs
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience
- Demonstrate product knowledge and share education with the Team
- Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, payment choices, exchanges, and security practices
- Maintain personal sales performance and support teammates’ presentations per the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG)
- Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sale, and total net sales goals set by Store Management
- Provide legendary service in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area
- Know exchange and return procedures and use opportunities to educate Guests
- Complete and utilize the SPG daily to accomplish goals
- Meet or exceed Buckle business builders and guest loyalty standards
- Expand Guest selection through inventory management tools and product search
- Maintain and build guest relationships to develop a client-based business
- Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness
- Communicate Guest levels to the Team
- Ask business-driven, showmanship questions to managers, Team Leaders and teammates
- Be coachable and welcome feedback to improve sales presentations
- Perform leadership actions consistently, regardless of Manager presence
- Plan sales goals with Store Manager and own store’s sales performance
- Demonstrate passion for product education and denim showmanship to achieve results
- Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
- Recognize recruiting opportunities and use referrals
- Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating and educating new Teammates
- Maintain a positive attitude and floor culture
- Demonstrate appropriate dress and professionalism
- Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
- Coach on denim showmanship and related training; execute department calendars and weekly delegation
- Lead training shifts and upgrade skills of non-sales positions as needed
- Visual Merchandise Management
- Own and influence product through zone ownership and daily Teammate assignments
- Demonstrate and implement new tools and zone ownership practices
- Delegate and review all four zones with the Store Manager
- Ensure adherence to Visual Standards and weekly checklists
- Identify merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations
- Conduct informative store tours and maintain appropriate display of freight and new products
- Make store-wide visual improvements via the Performance Tracker
- Operations
- Maintain flexible schedule, including holidays and peak shopping times
- Use planners and complete Opening/Closing Checklists
