The Nourish Iowa VISTA Leader role requires completion of at least one full 12‑month term of service in Ameri Corps or the Peace Corps. As a VISTA member, you will serve alongside a cohort of fellows working to build a more equitable food system throughout Iowa, engaging with thought leaders in food systems, and participating in local, statewide, and national coalitions.
You will also be eligible for free enrollment in Iowa State University’s Local Food Leader certification course.
- Enrich the service experience for members through active support, listening, and collaboration.
- Build community among a statewide cohort of VISTAs, often spanning up to 100 miles.
- Become an expert on federal and public‑benefit programs such as SNAP and workforce‑development best practices.
- Collaborate on members’ projects and become well‑versed in the entire portfolio of local food and hunger‑intervention programs.
- Lead recruitment and program‑development initiatives, establishing new talent pools and ensuring each cohort is filled with passionate applicants.
- Improve collaboration among host sites and VISTA members, develop new food‑access initiatives, and refine recruitment plans.
- Serve as the face of Nourish Iowa, engaging food‑system leaders through coalition efforts.
- Completed at least one full 12‑month term of service in Ameri Corps or the Peace Corps.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse groups, demonstrating accountability and compassion.
- Experience or interest in recruiting, workforce development, and community outreach.
