Overview

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Economics in the Wilson College of Business seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice or Instruction, starting in August 2026. This is a 9-month academic year, two-year term appointment with a primary focus on undergraduate teaching and economics education outreach. The appointment may be extended after the initial two-year term.

Responsibilities
  • Teach four 3-credit economics courses per semester in a mix of in-person and online modalities.
  • Administrative relief in the fall or spring semester of the first year: one-course reduction for new hires.
  • Teaching assignments may include Introduction to Business Economics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Statistics for Business Analytics, and/or Decision Analytics, depending on expertise and departmental needs.
  • Maintain regular on-campus presence and scheduled office hours.
  • Engage in service to support the department’s economics education initiatives, with emphasis on developing and delivering online and classroom-based resources for K–12 teachers and students.
  • Contribute to bridging theory and practice and convey the importance of economics in a business environment.
About the College and Department

The Wilson College of Business (business.uni.edu) is AACSB-accredited with separate accounting accreditation and offers BA degrees in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing & Entrepreneurship, along with MBA and MAcc programs. The college and its faculty are engaged in regional and international partnerships and extensive outreach, including a significant economic outreach unit, Business & Community Services, serving Iowa and beyond.

Education and Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s in economics from an AACSB-accredited university.
  • Required Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in teaching online and in-person; at least two semesters of in-person stand-alone teaching experience; at least two semesters of online teaching experience; ability to create an engaged and applied classroom environment; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: PhD in economics from an AACSB-accredited university; experience teaching microeconomics, macroeconomics, or business statistics online; ability to advance student success.
