Vice President of Strategic Relations (Director of Strategic Relations)

This role is well suited for candidates currently serving as a Director or Senior Director of Strategic Relations, Managed Care, or Payer Relations who are ready for expanded national responsibility.

Company: American Sleep Dentistry

Reports to: CEO

About American Sleep Dentistry

American Sleep Dentistry is the largest provider of oral appliances for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in the United States. We operate at the intersection of healthcare delivery, medical devices, telehealth, and technology.

The Opportunity

We’re hiring a Vice President of Payer Strategy & Contracting to lead enterprise payer strategy and contracting across commercial and government payer channels. This executive will shape coverage and reimbursement strategy, negotiate payer agreements, and partner cross-functionally to improve patient access, accelerate growth, and strengthen unit economics—while maintaining compliance and operational excellence

This role is designed for a senior payer-facing executive who already has existing relationships with payers and knows how to get contracts done.

You will own payer strategy end-to-end and work directly with executive leadership to expand national coverage, improve reimbursement, and scale access.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead national payer contracting efforts (Medicare Advantage and commercial plans).
  • Negotiate reimbursement rates, coverage terms, and network participation.
  • Serve as executive escalation point for payer issues and negotiations.
Relationship Management
  • Leverage existing payer relationships to accelerate contracting timelines.
  • Maintain senior-level relationships with payer executives and medical directors.
  • Represent American Sleep Dentistry as a strategic partner to insurers.
Revenue Performance & Operational Enablement
  • Partner with revenue cycle and billing teams to improve clean claim rates, denial prevention, appeals success, and payment velocity.
  • Translate payer requirements into practical workflows that support clinicians, patient coordinators, and operations teams.
  • Work with the technology team to optimize payer-related capabilities within our platform (e.g., eligibility checks, documentation workflows, reporting, billing rules).
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership, sleep physicians, and sleep dentists to align payer strategy with evidence, outcomes, and patient safety.
  • Partner with finance to model reimbursement impacts and support pricing/forecasting decisions.
  • Represent payer strategy at the executive level—providing clear reporting, risk assessment, and recommendations.
  • Work closely with legal counsel to resolve payer disputes and contractual issues.
Team Building & Management
  • Build and lead a high-performing team across payer contracting, payer relations, and contract analytics.
  • Define KPIs, dashboards, and rhythms that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Candidates currently at the Director or Senior Director level with national payer experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Title and compensation will be aligned based on experience and scope.
  • 10+ years of experience in payer strategy, contracting, reimbursement, or market access (healthcare required; sleep medicine, dental, DME, medical device, or telehealth is a plus).
  • Proven track record negotiating and managing complex payer agreements with measurable results.
  • Strong understanding of payer operations: coverage policy, claims, utilization management, denials/appeals, and reimbursement mechanics.
  • Executive-level communication and influence—able to align internal stakeholders and lead external negotiations.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills; comfortable building business cases and using analytics to guide strategy.
  • Leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives.
Why This Role Is Unique
  • Executive-level authority with real decision-making power
  • Ability to shape payer strategy at a market-leading company
  • Direct impact on patient access nationwide
  • Backed by:
  • FDA-cleared devices
  • Proprietary technology
  • In-house clinical expertise
  • Paid holidays & paid vacation
  • 401(k) with company match
  • A mission-driven organization improving sleep health at scale
  • Rapid growth with meaningful career upside and executive influence
