Position Summary

Supports budgeting and financial activities while ensuring the accuracy of financial, accounting, and budgeting processes and compliance with institutional standards, practices, policies, and procedures for the division.

Essential Functions
  • Research, verify, and resolve budget discrepancies and funding issues to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the Academic budget processes.
  • Process supplemental compensation requests, ensuring accuracy in workload, compensation amount, proper financial codes and approval queues, and budget availability.
  • Effectively communicate and work with Academic departments, Business Managers, and administrative assistants to prepare documents and financial reports, and provide general budget assistance to promote and develop a fundamental understanding of the University's financial system, budget guidelines, goals, and expectations.
  • Monitor college, departmental, and program finances for the proper use of funds, adherence to budget constraints and provide support as needed.
  • Manage the Provost's Office budgets, along with the corresponding departments. Provide financial support by processing invoices, P-card statements, budget transfers, accounts reconciliations, and assistance with financial planning as needed.
  • Work with assigned functional areas to create new budget indices, establish and set up initial budgets, and prepare budget transfers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain relationships with auxiliary departments and serve on various committees as needed.
Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelors degree in business, finance, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of direct, full-time, paid work experience.
  • Trade-offs in education and experience may be considered on a two-to-one basis.
  • Part-time work experience may be considered on a prorated basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MAcc, MBA, or MPA degree.
  • Higher education and/or local/state government budget experience.
  • At least (1) year of direct, full-time, paid work experience.
  • Experience in performing financial analysis, forecasts, and projections.
Supplemental Information
  • Position is contingent on funding.
  • Position is a 12 month contract, paid over 12 months of the year.
  • Due to recent changes in H1B visa fees, Southern Utah University is no longer able to sponsor international faculty and staff that require an H1B visa and are currently living outside of the United States.
