Overview
Pay rate depends on qualifications. We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Water Treatment Operator I, II & III at the Town of Cave Creek. The Town operates a CAP delivery pipeline, a Surface Water Treatment Plant located at 28235 N Basin Rd in Cave Creek, and a number of wells. The Water Treatment Operator will operate the water treatment plant, manage SCADA systems, perform laboratory analysis, conduct minor plant and equipment maintenance, keep records, and support safe, efficient operations.
PositionDetails
The Water Treatment Operator reports to the Water Treatment Supervisor. Primary responsibilities include operating the water treatment plant (SCADA and manual operation), performing routine maintenance, conducting laboratory analyses to determine chemical dosages, and maintaining log books, lab books, lab reports, daily total reports, inspection reports, backwash logs, and related databases. The operator must monitor plant systems, work safely with treatment chemicals, identify and address problems to maintain proper operation, and participate in training of new employees.

Qualifications by LevelCandidates for a Level I Operator
- High School Diploma or GED
- 0-2 years of experience in water quality or water operations
- Unrestricted Arizona Driver’s license
- ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification within 6 months of hire
- Pay range: $25.90 - $38.85
Candidates for a Level II Operator
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of experience in water quality or water operations
- Unrestricted Arizona Driver’s license
- ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification at time of hire
- ADEQ Grade 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification within 12 months of hire
- Pay range: $27.71 - $41.56
Candidates for a Level III Operator
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2-4 years of experience in water quality or water operations
- ADEQ Grade 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification at time of hire
- ADEQ Grade 3 Water Operator certification within 12 months of hire
- ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution certification within 12 months of hire
- Pay range: $29.65 - $44.47
Knowledge of:
- Monitoring, evaluating and adjusting treatment processes including chemical feed rates, flow rates, tank levels, and pressure readings
- Understanding source water characteristics and sanitary survey processes
- Local, State and Federal regulations and water quality standards
- Facility operation and maintenance of equipment; basic electrical, hydraulic and mechanical knowledge
- Safety, emergency plans and procedures
Skills in:
- Verbal and written communication
- Prioritizing workload and problem solving
- Team collaboration and building positive relationships
- Mathematical reasoning and data interpretation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS software
- Operate the water treatment plant, interpret SCADA data or operate manually
- Collect samples, perform laboratory tests, document results, and take appropriate actions
- Perform general plant maintenance and assist maintenance staff
- Maintain log books and input data into electronic databases
- Assist other Utility staff with maintenance of remote facilities
- Work seasonal shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; standby and call-back duties required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
The position may involve confined spaces, climbing ladders, and working in rotating day/evening/night/weekend shifts. Work may require exposure to various environmental conditions and hazards.
