The Elections Specialist I is a customer service role within the Clerk and Recorder’s Office – Elections Division. This position supports the daily operations of elections by providing professional customer service, performing accurate data entry, processing voter registrations, and assisting with mail, records, and correspondence. Work includes reviewing forms for accuracy, processing payments, responding to inquiries, supporting election cycles, and maintaining compliance with state and federal election laws.

Serving as a trusted representative of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, the Elections Specialist I provides clear information to citizens, ensures compliance with statutory requirements, and safeguards sensitive personal and voter information. The role requires attention to detail, professional communication skills, and the ability to work in a high-volume environment with accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.

Generally, the hiring range is $45,760-$51,617 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Customer Service and General Support
  • Provides frontline customer service by greeting and assisting in‑person visitors, answering phone calls and online chats, and responding to email inquiries.
  • Processes daily mail, voter correspondence, and voter registration forms. manages the Elections Office email account.
  • Provides clear, accurate information to citizens, candidates, and political parties regarding elections processes and requirements.
  • Collects and processes fees, posts and reconciles daily credit card and cash sales, and maintains accurate accounting records.
  • Performs clerical work including typing, filing, scanning, and record indexing.
  • Lives out the competencies outlined in the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, fostering teamwork and a supportive work environment.
Election Processing and Records Management
  • Performs voter registration data entry, proofing, and maintenance with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Generate reports and notices for customers, political parties, and candidates in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Creates, revises, and maintains standard operating procedures related to role‑specific functions.
  • Supports Extraordinary ballots, Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) processes and mail ballot processing as assigned.
  • Administers state and federal election laws to support secure, accurate, and accessible elections.
  • Attends training, conferences, and courses to obtain and maintain Certified Election Official status and stays current on legislative and industry changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of statutory compliance, business operations, and department needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of customer service, clerical, or administrative experience preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • This position is part of a potential career progression series. Advancement to a higher level may be considered based on factors such as demonstrated competencies, experience, performance, and organizational need.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of hire and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Must pass state and/or national criminal background checks annually.
  • Must obtain Colorado Secretary of State Election Certification within one (1) year of hire and maintain certification biennially.
