Bus Driver

Summary

The position of Bus Driver safely transports students and/or employees to and from various locations in the state and sometimes out of state for Casper College functions, which could include sports and/or academic events, etc. This position will work as needed, which may not be every week. When working, the hours may be long and/or off working hours (late nights/early mornings), with the occasional possibility of staying overnight in a location.

• Operate the bus according to accepted practices and procedures.
• Ensure safety of passengers.
• Select a route for each trip in coordination with immediate supervisor and/or trip sponsors. Monitor weather and road conditions before and during the trip.
• Performs minor maintenance on the bus.
• Coordinates repairs on the bus while on trips; documents and reports vehicle maintenance, concerns/problems to supervisor at end of each trip.
• Pre-trip preparations before each trip.
• Ensure the bus remains clean by maintaining interior and exterior cleanliness between, during, and after trips, including washing the exterior at the end of each trip or when needed.

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of and ability to adhere to Department of Transportation and State of Wyoming driving standards, rules, and regulations
• Valid CDL license with Passenger endorsement at the time of hire. Must maintain insurability under the College’s insurance plan.
• Ability to operate a bus in a safe manner and provide a high level of customer service
• Knowledge of bus service and maintenance
• Ability to have effective working relationships with other people
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
• Communicate and comprehend effectively, verbally and in writing

• Previous bus or truck driving experience
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize assigned work

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor (bus) conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to various weather conditions when outside of the bus (checking the bus for safety/maintenance, loading passengers, etc.). The noise level in the work is usually moderate. The employee will occasionally work evenings and weekends; less frequently overnight.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use feet/legs to operate pedals, hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk and crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
