The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a full-time Lead Environmental Specialist to facilitate environmental compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations for public and private clients across all of our Lifeline Sectors:
Transportation, Renewables, Power, and Water, as well as other industries we serve. Our goal is to assist clients with developing an approach to environmental compliance and due diligence that balances development with natural and cultural resources protection.
The candidate will work remotely from eastern Wyoming or western South Dakota.

The Lead Environmental Specialist will primarily support an existing client across eastern Wyoming and assist with business development in western South Dakota, eastern Wyoming and the surrounding areas. The position will also support and manage new and existing projects as well as assist with business development across our footprint. Proven experience in environmental analysis, compliance, and public/stakeholder involvement will be needed to lead, author, and review technical reports.

The applicant should have direct experience with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), wetland delineation, biological resources, historic/cultural resources, and environmental due diligence surveys/documentation/approvals. This team member will have direct contact with regulatory agencies and clients. This person will also work with multidisciplinary project teams, with proven experience to lead through the process. Candidate must be motivated to identify, pursue, and expand Ulteig’s client base and industry presence, while being responsive to our current client needs.

The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, have strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on multiple projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, manage, organize, and direct multi-disciplinary teams for the purpose of preparing reports (e.g., NEPA documents, wetland delineation reports, biological assessments, noise analysis, environmental site assessments, etc.) and environmental permit applications in support of projects for various industries and markets
  • Provide oversight, review, and interpretation of data as part of new or ongoing investigations, mitigation, or monitoring projects
  • Lead, organize, and participate in project field efforts (wildlife, botanical, water, etc.)
  • Communicate scientific and technical information to the project team
  • Prepare and review environmental reports and related materials
  • Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition, and compliance
  • Develop lasting professional relationships with current clients through quality client support
  • Engage new clients through professional networking, marketing, and exceptional customer service and support
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of services, schedules, and budgets
  • Mentor junior staff

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in environmental science, environmental planning, environmental policy, biology, wildlife management, range management, natural resources management, or related field
  • 5-10 years of related experience (advanced degree may count toward experience)
  • Thorough understanding of and experience with relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations (e.g., NEPA;
    Endangered Species Act [ESA];
    Clean Water Act [CWA];
    Clean Air Act [CAA];
    National Historic Preservation Act [NHPA];
    Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act [CERCLA]; Resource Conservation and Recovery Act [RCRA]) as they relate to environmental review and approval/permitting of projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective time-management, written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in team situations as well as establish strong relationships with other teams
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and applicable industry-related software packages (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps)
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the US
