Summary

The position of Electronics Technology Instructor will teach and develop courses in electric circuits, digital and solid-state electronics, motor controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and low-voltage security and control systems. Instruction will be delivered in face-to-face lecture/lab and online formats.

The position also requires active participation in program development and realignment to ensure the curriculum meets evolving industry needs, as well as engagement in student outreach, recruitment, and retention activities. Some duties will occur outside regular business hours, including recruiting events, support for student clubs, department events, and community engagement.

This is a benefited, 9-month position.

Responsibilities

The Electronics Technology Instructor will provide instruction in a full range of courses related to the Electronics Technology program. The faculty member will be required to meet all scheduled classes prepared to provide instruction; prepare teaching syllabi for courses of study; prepare materials to adequately evaluate student progress; report midterm and final grades when appropriate; maintain accurate and adequate records; establish regular office hours for student consultation.

The faculty member performs other related duties as assigned, which duties include but are not necessarily limited to advising students on academic curricula; serving on faculty committees; participating in faculty meetings; providing recommendations for preparation of departmental or school budgets; participating in the development of departmental curricula; and adhering to all institutional policies.

The faculty member will remain current in the field(s) for which they are hired by staying up to date in industry trends and technologies, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences. Additional departmental or school assignments will be established where appropriate.

  • Teach a full range of Electronics Technology courses including, but not limited to:
    • ELTR 1570 - Electric Circuits
    • ELTR 1700 - Solid State Devices
    • ELTR 1760 - Digital Electronics
    • ELTR 1980 - Cooperative Work Experience (Electronics)
    • ELTR 2570 - Process Control
    • ELTR 2610 - Microcontrollers for Automation
    • ELTR 2815 - Programmable Logic Controllers
    • ELTR 2840 - Motor Controls
  • Develop and update course syllabi, materials, and assessments aligned with program outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records, including grades (via Moodle) and attendance, while holding regular office hours for student support.
  • Create and modify curriculum to stay current with regional industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with advisory committees and local businesses to ensure graduate preparedness and program relevance.
  • Integrate new instructional technologies and equipment into the classroom and lab.
  • Lead recruitment efforts through high school visits, career fairs, and community events.
  • Provide academic advising to guide students through course selection and career goals.
  • Support student retention by fostering an inclusive environment and leading student clubs or competitions.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, serve on committees, and contribute to departmental budgeting and resource planning as needed by the department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in Electronics Technology (or related field), or Master Electrician License
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education
Work Environment

A typical work environment is a classroom, shop, and office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Noise level is usually minimal to moderate as the worker is exposed to electric motors, pumps, and electronic tools and equipment. Work is usually performed during the normal workday; however, early morning, late evening and weekend work will be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors travelling between campus buildings in various weather conditions.
