Field Construction Project Engineer - for heavy civil construction Advertisement

Montana Civil Contractors is looking for a project engineer with a degree in Construction Management Technology to assist the field superintendent and senior project manager. Montana Civil Contractors, Inc. is based in Belgrade, Montana, and is a heavy‑civil construction company with projects underway or completed across Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. MCC specializes in dams, landfills, wastewater lagoons, contract mining and mine reclamation, underground utilities, water treatment systems, airport construction, and federal and state highway construction.

On average 55 hours, 5‑6 days per week. Salary: $80,000–$100,000 plus benefit package including field wage, vehicle rent, housing allowance, cell phone, healthcare and 401(k). Full health, dental, vision provided, 401(k) match, paid time off, sick days, profit sharing. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Job Description

Coordinate with project superintendent and project manager to schedule activities of the construction project. Inspect work progress and construction site for safety to ensure specifications are met. Read blueprints to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures. Assign work to employees. Must have technology skills.

Tasks
  • Assist PM in preparing competitive proposals using Hard Dollar Estimating software
  • Conduct take-offs utilizing Agtek modeling software
  • Assist PM in planning, organizing, and directing project activities from initial bid to project closeout
  • Assist PM in facilitating project subcontractors and suppliers
  • Ensure assigned projects/tasks are completed timely and with a high level of accuracy and quality
  • Work alongside project manager and project superintendent on all quality control items
  • Monitor fieldwork execution/progress and report on productivity against budget
  • Quantity and field surveying utilizing Topcon GPS systems
  • Assist PM and field superintendent with project document control, RFIs, supplemental information, submittals, drawing and spec review, etc.
  • Assist PM in managing all project closeout procedures

Knowledge of machines and tools, business management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Active listening giving full attention to what others say, taking time to understand points being made, asking questions appropriately, and not interrupting inappropriately. Communicating information effectively. Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Requirements
  • Must have a CET, CE, MET, or Environmental Engineering degree or be in graduation status

  • Knowledge and skills in the use of various Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Primavera, contractor applications, and Hard Dollar Estimating or equivalent
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential
  • Must maintain confidentiality
  • Must have positive attitude and possess excellent motivational skills and contribute to a team‑oriented work environment
  • Must be willing to travel to projects for extended periods of time
