The City of Casper is seeking a customer-focused Permit Technician to support our Community Development Department. This position plays a key role in helping residents, contractors, and developers navigate permitting and licensing requirements while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
What You’ll Do:- Assist the public with permit and license applications, procedures, and requirements
- Review, process, route, and issue permits; calculate and collect applicable fees
- Maintain accurate records and enter data into the City’s computerized permitting system
- Provide information on zoning, building codes, ordinances, and project status
- Support administrative functions, reporting, and special projects as assigned
Incumbents are responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of the Community Development Department with providing customer assistance and guidance on codes, ordinances and policies regarding various licenses and permits; receive, review, route and process applications and permits.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:Receives general supervision from the Building and/or Code Enforcement Supervisor and higher-level management Staff.
- Basic knowledge of building codes and City permits.
- Modern office procedures, methods and use of technological equipment including database management.
- Customer service principles.
- Basic accounting principles.
- Record keeping and file management principles.
- Fiscal record keeping.
- Federal, state, and local laws, policies, and guidelines relating to licensing and permit activities.
- Routinely demonstrate the City of Casper core values.
- Follow all City safety rules and procedures and immediately report all accidents/incidents or unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
- Read, understand, convey information and educate the general public concerning permitting procedures and policies.
- Organize tasks and working environment in order to maximize efficiency with attention to customer service.
- Deal with difficult customers and use effective problem-solving skills.
- Operate a variety of modern office equipment and tools including specialized software.
- Research and prepare statistical reports.
- Work on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Follow federal, state, and local laws, policies, and guidelines relating to licensing and permit activities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Attention to detail.
- Conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Operating in a courteous, knowledgeable and tactful manner with customers, staff and the general public.
