PLEASE NOTE - This position may require temporarily relocation to other TONHC Facilities:
Sells Hospital, Santa Rosa Health Center, San Simon Health Center, Casa Grande, and San Xavier Health Center.
Performs routine and repetitive cleaning activities in the hospital and assigned areas; maintains a safe and sanitary work environment. In addition, perform various environmental services duties to keep the hospital, clinics, and buildings neat, orderly, and clean condition, meeting all accreditation standards.
Scope of WorkThe position is located in TON Health Care and works under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Selects cleaning materials and supplies and prepares solutions according to procedures and manufacturer s recommendations.
- Cleans and sanitizes office or general areas, office furnishings, equipment, floors, windows, walls, and other items within assigned work areas through such actions as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, polishing, dusting, wiping, scrubbing, steaming, washing or rinsing.
- Disinfects and sanitizes exam rooms and equipment.
- Disposes of bio-hazard containers according to established policies and protocols.
- Transports infectious waste in a special closed container to the waste garage for sterilization before disposal as requested.
- Properly collects and disposes of trash and other miscellaneous debris.
- Cleans patient rooms thoroughly; performs duties, such as mopping floors, washing the furniture, scrubbing plastic cushions and bed frames, cleaning and washing bathroom fixtures, dusting overhead and bed lamps, making beds, and performing other general cleaning work.
- Collects, sorts all soiled linen, weighs, and sorts into appropriate carts.
- Pre-treats stained linen.
- Loads and unloads washers and dryers to operate the machines and records poundage amounts washed and dried.
- Folds linen.
- Collects or distributes soiled or clean linen.
- Climbs ladder to hang cubicle drapes, window drapes, or reach high areas for other cleaning purposes.
- Handles and uses cleaning chemicals according to product recommendations, OSHA, and company safety guidelines.
- Maintains and safely operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, steam cleaners, and power washers.
- Maintains proper stocking and inventory levels of cleaning supplies.
- Reports equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions or situations, or items requiring maintenance.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the Tohono O odham culture, customs, and traditions.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
- Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to safely use cleaning products and operate cleaning equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to learn the methods of cleaning and caring for buildings and equipment.
- Ability to work as a team member in a structured working environment.
- Ability to operate and maintain floor care equipment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six months of experience in custodial-related work.
Special Requirements
- Hospital experience preferred.
- Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and a National FBI fingerprint check are required to determine suitability for employment, including a 39-month driving record.
- May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver s license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
- If required, must meet the Tohono O odham Nation tribal employer s insurance requirements to receive a driver s permit to operate program vehicles.
- Based on the department s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O odham language and English as a condition of employment.
