As a Senior Designer, you'll play a key role in shaping the infrastructure that keeps our communities connected. From new installations to upgrades of conflicted systems, your work ensures that our facilities and networks meet the highest standards of design and performance.
What your day would be likeYou are responsible for:
- Lead Design Efforts: Develop and oversee designs for new installations and modifications to plant facilities, transmission and distribution systems, substations, and customer projects.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to prepare project drawings and design documentation.
- Provide Technical Guidance: Offer engineering recommendations and design reviews to APS crews, contractors, and consultants for repairs and modifications.
- Support Project Planning: Contribute technical input to manpower estimates, schedules, construction packages, and cost projections.
- Ensure Compliance: Maintain oversight of engineering documentation to align with established design standards and procedures.
- Experienced Designer: Strong background in utility or industrial design, with expertise in electrical systems and infrastructure.
- Technical Problem Solver: Ability to identify risks and provide practical solutions for complex projects.
- Collaborative Professional: Skilled at working with cross‑functional teams and communicating technical concepts clearly.
- Detail‑Oriented: Committed to accuracy and compliance with design standards and safety requirements.
- Forward‑Thinking: Comfortable managing both routine and unique design challenges in a dynamic environment.
- High School Diploma/GED plus two (2) years college or technical school coursework in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) or a technical discipline (or equivalent) plus eight (8) years designer, drafting, CAD experience in area of specialization.
- Some work areas may require a valid driver's license.
- Experience performing Computer Aided Design (CAD) work at a subject‑matter expert level of proficiency.
- Extensive experience interacting with internal APS departments, external service providers and external stakeholders/customers as needed to support projects.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of design and project management process.
- Effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency using Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications (or similar computer applications).
Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.
- Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners‑based employees).
- Role types are subject to change based on business need.
