Overview
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for designing and delivering swim lessons for the branch. They will work to strengthen relationships with members and build communities around common goals while maintaining safety in the pool, on the deck and surrounding areas.
They will be responsible for managing those functions in accordance with the stated mission and policies established by the YMCA of the Triangle Area.
Responsibilities- Plans and assigns swim lesson schedule in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
- Oversees swim lessons to ensure safety, on time schedule and accurate reporting of children’s progress.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Be present during all program times.
- Teach classes and cover or fill open shifts.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
- Maintains an open line of communication with direct supervisor, guards and instructors on staff.
- Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Attends staff meets and trainings as scheduled.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area at all times.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- 1-2 years experience teaching swim lessons and program supervision.
- Must be professional, courteous and friendly, have a high level of initiative and be a self-starter.
- Must have excellent communication skills, be well organized, and be able to respond appropriately in a dynamic, fluid environment.
- Ability to determine and set priorities; as well as the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment is critical.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Maintain necessary certifications including but not limited to Basic Life Support (CPR, First Aid and Oxygen), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and YMCA Swim Instructor Certification or equivalent.
- Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.

- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

- Ability to communicate clearly through speech and understanding of the English language.
- Ability to walk, run, stand, kneel, stoop, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
- Compliance with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question and/or hire.
