Overview
Do you love baseball and softball? Enjoy engaging with people? Join Cary's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department as an Athletic Aide IV at our baseball/softball facilities at Middle Creek Park and Thomas Brooks Park. In this role, you will oversee facility rentals, tournaments, special events, and youth and adult sports leagues. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals with leadership, communication skills, and a passion for the game.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours per week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. A flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends, as needed, is required.
Responsibilities- On-site supervision of youth and adult sports events and leagues
- Manage field usage during athletic games, rentals, and events
- Handle challenging situations and disputes effectively
- Open, set up, and close athletic and park facilities
- Collect and ensure accuracy in accident and incident report forms
- Communicate effectively with facility renters, staff, booking agents, and emergency personnel
- Enforce Cary policies with a friendly approach
- Provide routine information on departmental policies, procedures, and services
- Perform other job-related tasks as required
Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of baseball and softball
- General knowledge of common computer software
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to interact with the public and participants tactfully and constructively
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED. Requires CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months with provided training). Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred
- Some supervisory experience in community or group recreation activities in athletics
- Some prior knowledge of baseball and/or softball
- Some experience working with recreation management software
Must be able to move about freely and walk unassisted to access the facility. Ability to lift or move moderately heavy to heavy items (up to 75 lbs for items on wheels, and up to 25 lbs regularly) such as equipment bags, pitching machines, portable pitching mounds, and other related equipment. Visual acuity to read typed and handwritten materials and view a computer terminal.
Ability to work outside in various weather conditions for extended periods.
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Requires drug testing and background checks (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification, and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
