All About General Merchandise
Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

  • Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest first culture across the store
  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
  • Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

As a General Merchandise Expert, a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:

  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks
  • Engage with guests to assist with their specific needs
  • Thank guests and acknowledge their visit
  • Receive products, restock shelves, organize backroom, arrange merchandise, and put up promotional signs for GM areas
  • Operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures if certified
  • Change prices, set up and maintain merchandise, and ensure inventory accuracy as directed
  • Learn how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability
  • Be knowledgeable about store resources, products, and services to solve guest issues
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance
  • Work safely and report hazards, following safety policies, best practices, and training
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking/packing orders, or delivering pickup orders) while complying with applicable laws
  • All other duties based on business needs

  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
  • Ability to communicate using multiple devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology as directed
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Ability to resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes
  • Ability to stay focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established time frames

Additional Basics We Expect

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
  • Climb ladders when required
  • Scan, handle and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds without assistance
  • Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions while performing duties
  • Ability to stay mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
