Basic Job Function
To help the overall day‑to‑day operation and long-term outlook of the restaurant; to greet and interact with each guest in a kind, collected, and positive manner, while having a clear understanding and interest in the dishes and beverages served.
Job Description- Main duty is to provide polite, professional, fast, and courteous service. The level of professionalism expected is high.
- Stand prepared and keep composure for unexpected situations.
- Maintain a polite, positive, accommodating, calm, and sympathetic demeanor at all times.
- Accurately communicate upcoming reservations or potential guests to all staff members.
- Assist wherever necessary, such as bussing tables, running food, delivering drinks, resetting tables, and other team tasks.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and fit into the team; treat guests with respect and receive the same in return.
- Work collaboratively to ensure excellent service across the restaurant.
To assist with day‑to‑day operations, greet/interact with guests positively, support any necessary tasks throughout the Food & Beverage Department, and maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of the restaurant.
This is for a part‑time (about 30 hours) host position for dinner service only.
Skills- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
- Must be a self‑motivator and motivator of others.
- Must work in a safe, prudent, and organized manner.
- Must have good knowledge of food and preparation.
- Must have or quickly acquire good knowledge of wine.
- Must be able to relate to all levels of guests and management.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience in a similar position.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must consistently delight and satisfy guests.
- Work indoors and also on outdoor terrace seating.
- May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
- Physical ability to walk, handle trays, food items, glasses, etc. for at least 4 hours at a time.
- Must be able to exert well‑paced ability in limited space and reach other locations timely.
- Must lift up to 20 lbs. regularly.
- Must bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
- Continuous talking, hearing, vision, and manual dexterity required for communication and equipment operation.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
- Must be able to use Open Table computer systems and Microsoft Word.
High school or equivalent education required.
ExperienceHost experience required; hospitality experience preferred.
Licenses Or CertificatesAbility to obtain and/or maintain any government‑required licenses, certificates, or permits.
GroomingAll employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well‑groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.
