Position: LPN 7a

Overview

Summary Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participates in the determination of nursing care needs based upon collection and interpretation of data relevant t the health status of a client. Delegates appropriate nursing care activities to competent unlicensed staff and provides supervision limited to the validation that tasks have been performed as delegated according to agency policy and procedures.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. Communicates with family members regarding care given to residents.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Prepares equipment and aids Physical during treatment and examination of patient.
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of client.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patients' condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to defect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
  • Receives and transcribes physician's orders, written and verbal.
  • Assists with admission and assessment of new patient's according to facility policy.
  • Maintains IV sites by changing dressings routinely and close observation to eliminate infiltration and inflammation.
  • Starts IV's or administer IV medications if certified and verified according to facility policy. Discontinue IV's and dispose of as policy dictates.
  • Documents in patients' chart according to nursing protocol and facility policy.
  • May have input into job performance evaluations of unlicensed staff.
  • Communicates patient appointments to facility staff responsible for arranging transportation.
  • Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, feeding pumps, suction machines and oxygen suppliers.
  • Collects specimens form clients for testing at lab.
  • Cleans & disinfects equipment such as suction machines, medicine carts, etc.
