Position: FACILITIES WORK EXPEDITOR

Our Public Works Facilities Maintenance division works collaboratively across departments as well as with vendors and community members to ensure that Cary has safe, clean, and beautiful places to work and play. Leading a team of skilled employees, the Facilities Work Expeditor gets to be involved in day‑to‑day operations and behind‑the‑scenes coordination to ensure the team's success.

Facilities Work Expeditors are responsible for guiding our work to provide quality, customer‑oriented and cost‑effective services. The Facilities Work Expeditor performs administrative and supervisory work planning and scheduling the work activities of a multi‑disciplined team that is engaged in the maintenance and care of Cary buildings, landscapes, parks, athletic fields, trails and rights‑of‑ways. Responsibilities
  • Expedites multiple crews involved in a variety of facilities maintenance and special programs support;
  • Plans and schedules work; creates work orders, sets goals and desired outcomes, monitors progress;
  • Develops and enforces team work rules, policies, and procedures;
  • Manages the work order system and ensures accurate work order data collection from all team members;
  • Leads work on weekend shifts as needed;
  • Coordinates with other Cary departments for services and special projects;
  • Supervises crews and checks on completion of work and safety;
  • Conducts training for staff;
  • Designs, sketches drawings, purchases materials and oversees work installing new landscaping;
  • Ensures all Cary, state, and federal work site rules are followed;
  • Oversees inspections of Cary facilities determining needs and corrections;
  • Writes specifications for field construction and follows up with contractors during construction;
  • Inspects facilities;
  • Supervises event support; works with event organizer to ensure success;
  • Supervises the Facility Attendant program;
  • Supervises athletic field preparation for league and tournament play;
  • Ensures facility standards are continually met;
  • Assists with analyzing data and prepares required reports;
  • Conducts personnel interviews, performance reviews and counsels employees;
  • Provides feedback or evaluations for contract operations performed within assigned facilities;
  • Identifies budget needs;
  • Identifies and recommends staff training needs;
  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies and materials;
  • Serves as a conduit of information for team members;
  • Supervises and coordinates staff during hazardous weather emergencies and clean‑up operations;
  • Performs other job‑related tasks as required.

Ability to supervise personnel, prioritize and plan work involved in a wide range of facility maintenance functions or special programs support;
Ability to motivate and coach a large multi-skilled team;
Considerable technical knowledge of building and landscape, turf, and ballfield maintenance practices and procedures;
Considerable knowledge of contracting practices;
Extensive knowledge of tools and materials used in repair and construction;
Considerable knowledge of all the building trades;
Some knowledge of N.C. Building Codes;
Considerable technical knowledge of plant materials, turf issues and ball field maintenance practices and procedures;
Considerable knowledge of contracting practices;
Considerable operational knowledge of personal computers and software;
Ability to read blueprints, instruction manuals, and plans;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Ability to maintain records;
Ability to maintain a safe work environment;
Ability to oversee the technical work of outside contractors;
Ability to diagnose problems;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and outside contractors.
