Overview

This is a Full-Time 2nd Shift Care Giver Position. Every Other Weekend Requirement. Shift Differentials: 1st shift M-F $0, Sat/Sun $1; M-F 2nd and 3rd shift $1;
Sat/Sun 2nd and 3rd shift $2. You will begin receiving shift differential once you complete your training period.

Base pay in range will be determined by applicant’s skills and experience. Role is also eligible for team based bonus opportunities. Temporary associates are not benefits eligible but may participate in the company’s 401(k) program. Veterans, transitioning active duty military personnel, and military spouses are encouraged to apply. Brookdale offers to advance naturalization costs (Form N-400) up to $725 for qualified associates who have been with us for at least a year.

Responsibilities

Provides dementia care including adapted ADLs, meaningful engagement and communication to residents following a person-centered individual service plan. Treats residents with respect and dignity, recognizes individual needs, and encourages independence. Fosters a purposeful and engaging culture throughout the community.

  • Assists residents and provides input in regards to the care plan and daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from programs and meals according to the individual service plan and interventions. Encourages residents to be as independent as possible.
  • Participates in team behavioral expression meetings or discussions with community leadership.
  • Knows the residents Life Story, preferences, historical routines and interests.
  • Serves meals to residents in the dining room; may assist in preparing meals following dementia-friendly menus. Records and reports changes in resident eating habits to the supervisor.
  • Initiates and/or leads Daily Path engagement programs as described in the Life Story, Solace program or calendar. Encourages socialization and participation in planned or spontaneous programs and supports friendships between residents.
  • Maintains residents’ records daily, including documentation related to medication distribution (as applicable), engagement interests, incidents and observations, and changes in health or behavior; reports to supervisor.
  • May assist with medication per state regulations where permitted, following physician orders and medication policies.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment; performs general housekeeping and resident-related tasks.
  • Follows procedures in emergencies and responds to resident requests for assistance.
  • Monitors resident location and notifies supervisor if a resident cannot be located.
  • Encourages teamwork and cooperative interactions with co-workers.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and three to six months related experience preferred and/or training in direct service with older adults living with dementia, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s type.

Certifications, Licenses, And Other Special Requirements
In accordance with state law, may need to possess current state certification and follow regulations to maintain current certification.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Standing; walking; sitting; manual dexterity; lifting up to 50 pounds; vision; ability to interact with residents and coworkers; occasional evenings or nights for shift coverage; on-call as needed; potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, and hazards; occasional travel.

Knowledge And Skills
