We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Substation Planner III to join our team at K&A Engineering in Garner, NC. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. RoleExpectations
- Review equipment history and maintenance/performance data to determine job requirements.
- Identify additional maintenance or capital work that can be performed concurrently.
- Monitor job progress and raise issues impacting schedule, efficiency, or work quality.
- Communicate and coordinate high-priority work with Construction, Project Management, Energy Services, Nuclear/Fossil Plants, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in project planning and scoping meetings.
- Develop construction work sequences and identify potential risks or obstacles.
- Coordinate transmission clearances with Grid Management, ECC/TCC, and DCC.
- Assist in resolving and re-sequencing work due to system or customer constraints.
- Create comprehensive work packages
- Travel to job sites for walkdowns, scoping, auditing work packages, and attending meetings.
- Ensure parts, tools, and equipment are available and adequate.
- Document variances between estimated and actual task hours.
- Support accurate completion of NERC-related documentation.
- Obtain feedback from crews, schedulers, and supervisors to drive continuous improvement.
- Assist with emergency planning, clearance requests, and hot line tag requests.
- Help ensure completion of the annual Construction & Maintenance work plan.
- Adapt plans as funding or priority needs change.
- Identify critical work activities and maintain visibility on items nearing overdue status.
- Minimum 5 years of Substation Construction experience
- Knowledge of ITOA (or equivalent system)
- Switching and tagging qualified
- Strong understanding of transmission construction methods, materials, and workflows
- Excellent organizational and collaboration skills
- Ability to travel to multiple worksites
