Sputtering Components Inc. (SCI) invites a dynamic, creative, and technically inclined intern to participate in a fulltime 3-month Research & Development Internship with the opportunity to continue through the school years 10-12 hours a week commitment. The primary focus will be assisting with experiments, compiling data, creation of technical documents and maintaining an online document repository. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Every day, millions of people around the world come into contact with products made using SCI equipment. Our thin film technologies are used in vacuum coating systems to make windows, smartphones, display screens, solar panels, automobile components, decorative hardware and more.


This is where you'll excel
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SCI products, including designs, materials, technologies, and applications.
  • Support internal testing efforts, including design/materials exploration, qualification, process application validation, and product demonstrations in response to internal or external requests.
  • Assist with creating and storing technical documentation.
  • Provide support in maintaining a high level of expertise on the capabilities and designs of SCI products while gaining valuable industry experience.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, evaluating, and implementing technology solutions that differentiate SCI products.
  • Participate in the development of new products, product enhancements, and product applications.
  • Respond to customer requests for specific or new information about SCI products under supervision.
  • Assist engineering on complex projects.
  • Contribute to the development and securing of intellectual property as identified by the team.
These are the skills you'll need
  • Actively pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, focus in mechanical, electrical, materials or other equivalent.
  • Microsoft Office experience. SharePoint is a plus.
  • Previous experience doing R&D in a manufacturing or lab environment is ideal.
  • Ability to work independently and execute sound judgment.
  • Team player willing to work as part of a team.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Speaks and understands English.
