Position Purpose
Plans and provides appropriate classroom learning experiences for students. Creates an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school‑related settings; monitors and evaluates student outcomes; and communicates/interacts with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices while monitoring the use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Extensive knowledge of curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum, policies, and effective classroom instructional practices
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Strategic problem‑solving skills, including the use of multiple data points
- Ability to prepare course objectives and outlines for a course of study following curriculum guidelines or state and school requirements
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, particularly when a student participates in an inclusive activity
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom and other school environments
- Ability to maintain files and records
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school‑based staff, students, parents, and the community
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to communicate well with school personnel, employees, and central office staff
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, vendors, and the community
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with an appropriate subject area
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in a teaching content area
- Master’s degree in a specific subject area
- Utilize assessment strategies (traditional and alternative) aligned with the Wake County Public School System curriculum and standards to aid continuous learner development
- Ensure effective communication techniques are used with students, parents, and all stakeholders
- Engage in planned continuous professional quality improvement for self, the school, and the district
- Use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote and enhance critical and creative thinking abilities of students
- Implement instruction and materials reflecting each student’s culture, learning style, special needs, and socioeconomic background
- Use an understanding of learning and development to establish a classroom management system that maintains regulation; create a positive learning environment where students are actively engaged, socially interacting, cooperating, and self‑motivating; support the intellectual, personal, and social development of all students
- Plan, align, implement, and evaluate effective instruction and assessment in a variety of learning environments
- Collaborate with peers, parents, community, and other stakeholders to continuously improve classroom educational experiences
- Integrate appropriate technology into teaching and learning processes
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Must be able to use a variety of office equipment and classroom tools such as computers, scanners, fax machines, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively. The role sometimes requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work.
WORK ENVIRONMENTMust be able to work in an office and public‑school environment and come into direct contact with employees, students, and the public.
