TxDOT's Atlanta District is seeking a dedicated Roadway Maintenance Section Supervisor in Carthage, TX to lead roadway maintenance operations and ensure safe, reliable travel for our communities. In this role, you’ll oversee skilled crews, manage resources, and coordinate projects that keep our roads, bridges, and rights‑of‑way in top condition. Responsibilities
  • Oversees a maintenance section and is responsible for providing a safe driving thoroughfare within a geographic area of the state through the maintenance of all roads, structures and rights‑of‑way.
  • Supervises technical and clerical employees.
  • Responds to emergency notifications as needed.
  • Contacts governmental officials, private entities and the public.
  • Establishes own work plan and priorities to meet objectives.
  • Administers and inspects contracted maintenance activities.
  • Inspects road conditions, work‑in‑progress and completed work.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements emergency response to inclement weather, flooding, accidents and hazardous material spills affecting area roadways.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates work project needs to include personnel, equipment and material with the Area Engineer and other district staff regularly.
  • Prepares and monitors the budget.
  • Prioritizes and assigns projects; guides crews in planning and scheduling; ensures projects follow safety guidelines.
  • Manages maintenance section office activities including human resources, public relations, facilities, inventory management and general office administrative matters.
  • Oversees operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment.
  • Trains other employees.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience
  • 8 years roadway maintenance or construction‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted at a year‑per‑year basis.
  • Must have 3 years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "N" endorsement or obtain "N" endorsement within 90 calendar days from date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class "A" Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with "N" endorsement
Knowledge of
  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
  • Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
