Overview
Find your calling at Mercy! Perform direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, basic and advanced life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. Field Supervisors also perform clerical and maintenance duties and act as preceptors of EMT and Paramedic students. They supervise EMTs and Paramedics in daily routine and pre-hospital care settings.
Field Supervisors make operational decisions in the absence of the Manager-Regional EMS or Supervisor-Operations and instruct EMTs and Paramedics in in-service training, education, and driving. The incumbent shall carry out responsibilities in alignment with Mercy’s caring philosophy, respect for human life, the dignity of each person, and Christian values, applying these to all crucial human issues in the area of responsibility.
Performs related duties as assigned.
- Provide direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and emergency life support (basic and advanced) as per Mercy guidelines.
- Perform clerical and maintenance duties as part of field supervision duties.
- Serve as a preceptor for EMT and Paramedic students.
- Supervise EMTs and Paramedics in daily routine and pre-hospital care settings.
- Make operational decisions in the absence of the Manager-Regional EMS or Supervisor-Operations.
- Instruct EMTs and Paramedics in in-service training, education, and driving.
- Integrate Mercy philosophy and values into daily management style and patient care.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Licensure: Paramedic (EMT-P) license for the state of practice; valid driver’s license.
- Experience: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
- Certifications/Registration: Hazmat awareness level training, ACLS at hire, PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer.
- Other: May be required to work differing shifts and schedules. Unimpaired mobility. Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, and carry equipment with a partner.
- Physical and sensory requirements: perform strenuous physical tasks (e.g., CPR, lifting and moving equipment/patients), correctable vision for day/night operation, color acuity for skin/blood assessment, ability to read medication dosages, hear and understand patients, family, bystanders and radio traffic, speak clearly in loud and stressful environments. Satisfy required medical skills and techniques and successfully pass pre-hire and annual fitness for duty tests.
- Equipment/Environment: Ability to operate mobile and portable communications equipment, monitor/defibrillator/pacer, stretcher, stair chair, backboard, and other EMS equipment; access patients in various conditions.
- Preferred Education: Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Preferred Licensure: TLS Provider
- Preferred Experience: Emergency services or related leadership experience; 3 years Paramedic experience; teaching experience.
- Preferred Certifications/Registration: NIMS 300 and 400.
