Overview
Band 7 Occupational Therapist responsible for delivering innovative and high quality Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and support to children and their families across the Newcastle, North East and Cumbria region referred to the paediatric oncology service. Supervision of the Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the team with responsibility for service delivery and developing links with other specialist children’s cancer services; multi-professional working and working groups across the UK and overseas.
Participation in quality improvement projects, audit and implementation of best practice guidance with the children's Occupational Therapy service ensuring demonstrating caring and compassionate care and leadership.

Urgent treatment centres
- Carry out complex Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to children and their families referred to and under the care of the children’s Oncology team
- Offer supervision and support to junior members of staff and students
- Participation in audit and service improvement projects
- Attendance of staff meetings and Band 7 meetings
- Maintaining professional registration and evidencing continuing professional development
- Completing risk assessments both at home and within school to support a child s occupational participation
- Undertaking moving and handling assessments
- Carrying out postural assessments and making recommendations accordingly

Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To provide a high standard of occupational therapy care to non-complex, complex and highly complex patients within specialty evidencing high-level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgement.
- The Advanced OT will be a highly specialist practitioner and is the clinical lead for the Occupational Therapy Service within specialty providing highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care across the region.
KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- In-depth clinical knowledge of medical/neurological conditions and their effect on occupational performance (master’s level equivalent)
- Highly developed understanding of OT process within acute setting
- In-depth knowledge of health and social care policy, risk assessment and management
- Extensive knowledge of a range of disability equipment
- Extensive knowledge of eligibility criteria and procedures/policies relevant to disability equipment, minor housing adaptations
- Highly specialist knowledge of moving and handling legislation and knowledge of current moving and handling best practice and associated equipment
- Excellent understanding of professional ethics and their application into practice
- Good knowledge of clinical governance
- Evidence of CPD
