Qualifications
- Registration with HCPC
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Podiatric medicine and local Analgesia Administration Certificate
- Post Graduate training/experience in specialist area working to MSc. or equivalent level
- Evidence of continuing professional development and post registration training
- Master’s Degree in Podiatry or Public Health (desirable)
- Certificate in Health Education (desirable)
- Advanced Certificate in the Diabetic Foot/Diabetic foot module (desirable)
- IRMER qualified to refer for X‑ray (desirable)
- Certificate in independent prescribing to enable limited medication prescription (desirable)
- Certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to participate in research (desirable)
Essential Knowledge
- Knowledge and implementation of Departmental, Trust and NHS policies, procedures and protocols
- Advanced knowledge of specialised areas (e.g., nail surgery, musculoskeletal, diabetes, wound care, mental health, acute sector) developed to MSc level
Essential Experience
- Substantial experience as a Specialist Podiatrist in the NHS, demonstrating expertise and leadership in complex caseload management
- Experience working in cohesive multidisciplinary teams
- Experience in assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for a varied and frequently medically complex caseload
- Experience in specialist areas such as diabetes, nail surgery, biomechanics, rheumatology, wound care and high‑risk foot management
- Experience managing a caseload of elderly people with complex social and medical conditions, including communication barriers
- Experience in foot health education and presentation skills
- Experience supervising and motivating others
- Clinical educator experience (desirable)
- Experience as clinical supervisor and appraiser (desirable)
Essential Skills
- Excellent clinical skills including delicate scalpel work, joint and tissue structure assessment, manipulation and diagnosis
- Effective interpersonal skills, including assertiveness, negotiation and conflict management
- Ability to multitask and work in an unpredictable pattern
- Strong organisational skills and self‑motivation
- Driving skills and a clean licence with access to suitable vehicle for local travel
- Good presentation skills (desirable)
The role is a stimulating and diverse Advanced Podiatrist position within the High‑Risk Foot Team. You will work across hospital and community settings, including the newly relocated Diabetes Centre at Freeman Hospital, and lead high‑risk clinics in the community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advanced podiatry services across hospital and community settings.
- Work closely with the Diabetes MDT at Freeman Hospital.
- Manage a diverse caseload of highly complex patients.
- Collaborate with a skilled team of Band 7 podiatrists and mentor junior colleagues, podiatry assistants and apprentices.
- Act as an autonomous practitioner assessing, diagnosing, treating and evaluating complex cases, and providing specialist advice across multiple disciplines.
- Lead on education and training for podiatry staff, apprentices and other health professionals.
- Develop professional and research activities, including audit, risk management and supervision programmes.
- Ensure smooth and efficient departmental running through day‑to‑day team management and deputising for Principal Podiatrists as required.
Applicants must have current HCPC registration and a clean driving licence. The post requires independent travel across the locality.
