We are looking for an organised and motivated Ward Clerk to join one of our busy surgical wards at the Freeman Hospital, to provide efficient administrative support to the Ward team and multidisciplinary team, helping to maintain high standards of patient care.

As a Ward Clerk on our busy surgical ward, you will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth running of day‑to‑day ward operations. You will work closely with the Ward Sister, Charge Nurse and wider multidisciplinary team, contributing directly to high‑quality, safe and well‑coordinated patient care.
- Update and manage patient information accurately on hospital systems and support effective patient flow throughout the ward.
- Be the first point of contact for patients, relatives and visitors, providing a professional and welcoming presence, responding to enquiries and directing communication appropriately.
- File, scan, process documentation and arrange patient transport in line with clinical requirements.
- Maintain strong communication skills, IT confidence and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively within a fast‑paced clinical environment.

DetailedJob Description and Main Responsibilities
- Provide and maintain efficient and effective administrative support to the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to the delivery of a consistently high standard of patient care as part of the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Ensure case notes, investigations, X-rays and results are available for new admissions, ward rounds and multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
- Ensure case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc). Ensure PAS system is up to date and accurate.
- NVQ Level 2 qualification / experience and/or minimum of 4 GCSEs, Level 4–9 (A–C), including English Language, or equivalent level qualification or relevant experience.
