TEACHER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

General Description:

To provide assistance and support to teachers regarding effective instructional strategies in order to improve student achievement and performance skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possess or eligible for Georgia certification Level 5 (Masters degree) or above. Minimum of three (3) years' successful classroom teaching experience preferably at the grade level(s) of assignment. Exemplary demonstration of effective instructional strategies. Strong communication skills with a variety of audiences.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Supports all teachers in the effective implementation and ongoing use of research-based instructional strategies
  • Works directly with teachers by providing classroom-based demonstrations, modeling, collaborative teaching, one-on-one and small group coaching
  • Provides quality professional learning to support effective instructional practices and building a guaranteed and viable curriculum with essential standards, learning targets, relevant data usage, appropriate assessments, and differentiation strategies
  • Provides specialized support to teachers who are new to the building and/or assignment
  • Serves as a general resource to all school staff for curriculum and instruction matters
  • Supports school leadership in developing and achieving specific goals in the School Improvement Plan related to student achievement
  • Assists teachers and administration in the selection of appropriate curriculum materials and resources
  • Organizes and maintains a list of all curriculum resources in the building and facilitates training to support teachers' use of new and existing instructional resources
  • Facilitates data conferences with teachers to determine student progress and growth, and to help teachers modify instructional strategies especially at the MTSS Tier 1 level
  • Assists with the administration of student assessments, analyzes results to inform interventions, and monitors progress for MTSS Tier 1
  • Coordinates all aspects of the gifted program at the school
  • Utilizes appropriate assessment and survey data to make recommendations for program offerings, curriculum changes, and student placement in instructional groupings
  • Attends and participates in school and district curriculum/instruction meetings
  • Adheres to School Board policies and procedures, ethical standards, and demonstrates professional practices in carrying out duties and responsibilities
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Complies with any reasonable oral or written request of the Principal or his/her designee, or other appropriate administrator
