The ASPCA’s Community Medicine (CM) team provides expert veterinary care to support the welfare of animals and their people through stationary and mobile veterinary clinics, serving underserved communities in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. you’ll do

As the Registered Veterinary Technician Staff and Floor Manager at the Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC), you will be a vital member of our veterinary medical team. You’ll support two high‑volume medical functions—spay‑neuter surgery and primary pet care—direct workflow on the floor, assist the veterinarian with medical treatments, and communicate with clients. You’ll collaborate with the CVC management team to coordinate the flow of work throughout the day to deliver high‑quality care and optimize our impact for animals in the communities we serve.

Compensation

Starting pay depends on education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands, and budgeted amount. The target hiring range for new hires is $44.24 – $46.64 / hour. The position is eligible for a $1,000 signing bonus and a $1,000 retention bonus after one year of service.

Work Schedule and Location
  • Monday – Friday, 8‑hour schedule; occasional overtime may be required.
  • On‑site at the Community Veterinary Clinic.
Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Medical/Floor Management
  • Perform veterinary technician functions: venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, surgical prep, diagnostics, pharmacy, and patient recovery.
  • Work side by side with staff veterinarians, technicians, and assistants to support spay‑neuter and primary pet care for cats and dogs.
  • Use low‑stress, gentle animal handling techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with clients—assist with intake, obtain history, and discharge patients.
Floor Management
  • Oversee workflow on the clinic floor, ensuring efficient use of time and skills.
  • Act as a visible presence: answer questions, adjust schedules, offer support, give and receive feedback, and foster commitment to ASPCA’s mission.
  • Ensure staff delivers high‑quality patient care and follows standard operating procedures.
  • Coach nursing staff in gentle handling, communication, and patient history gathering.
  • Ensure compliance with DEA regulations, drug log accuracy, mandatory break adherence, and time‑attendance guidelines.
Training
  • Train and onboard new nursing team members, including hands‑on skills training and weekly online modules.
  • Monitor trainees’ progress, provide developmental feedback, and coach interns, residents, and veterinary students.
People Management & Operations
  • Serve on the CVC Leadership Team and support a culture of kindness, respect, belonging, and teamwork.
  • Work with leadership to achieve daily clinic goals.
  • Lead a culture of safety and security; report incidents promptly.
  • Assist with hiring, scheduling, time‑sheet review, and daily huddles.
  • Meet regularly with the CVC management team to provide open communication and solutions.

Education and Work Experience
  • Graduated from an accredited veterinary science technology program (2‑ or 4‑year) or equivalent.
