Overview
The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board is hiring for a Cannabis Program Inspector 1:
Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Carson City. This position performs specialized duties for the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board and the organization. The incumbent will conduct inspections of cannabis establishments for compliance with the rules and regulations and document results, prepare reports of findings, and participate in related investigations under supervision.
- Inspect cannabis establishments for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including storage of cannabis products, laboratory reports, facility sanitation, labeling, and disposal of cannabis.
- Review facility policies and procedures, quality assurance programs, and facility records to ensure product services are provided in accordance with standards.
- Monitor statewide privately owned cannabis facilities (cultivation, edible/cannabis-infused products, independent testing laboratories, distributors, cannabis consumption lounges, dispensaries) to protect public health.
- Participate in entrance meetings with facility owners and representatives to explain inspection processes, legal requirements, and obtain access to facilities and information needed for inspections.
- Conduct on-site inspections of facilities, including review of policies and procedures, equipment, building plans, water supply and materials, processing and handling of product, quality assurance programs, and patient records to ensure compliance with laws and standards.
- Inspect on-site laboratories to ensure compliance with laws, review laboratory data for integrity and adherence to good laboratory practices, and review validations and SOPs for cannabis microbial, PCR, and chemical test methods.
- Review security and control measures including access control, storage, transportation, records, chain of custody, and disposal of plants and products.
- Document inspection findings in comprehensive reports, discuss deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions; participate in exit meetings and respond to questions. Determine certification and license status and take appropriate enforcement action; prepare violation notices and perform follow-up inspections as required.
- Assist in investigations of water-borne and food-borne illnesses traced to regulated facilities; collect samples, analyze data, and conduct interviews to identify sources and ensure remedial measures.
- Investigate complaints related to facility operations; interview involved parties, conduct surveillance, coordinate with regulators and law enforcement, and maintain case files.
- Coordinate inspections with state, federal, and local agencies; respond to emergencies such as chemical spills or transportation accidents involving cannabis products.
- Present findings and recommended enforcement actions to division managers, legal representatives, and other parties; may testify before commissions or in hearings.
- Continuing training in duties; this is a continuing trainee level with potential progression to the next level upon meeting qualifications and performance criteria.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester hours in core natural science credits and one year of experience in professional environmental health duties (interpreting public health laws and conducting inspections/investigations); OR
- Bachelor's degree in allied health sciences, biology, chemistry, environmental engineering, environmental health, environmental science, geology, physics, sanitary engineering, or closely related field with one year of professional experience as described; OR
- One year of experience as a Cannabis Program Inspector Trainee or Environmental Health Specialist 1 in Nevada State service; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
