This posting will be used to fill two (2) positions.
This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Community Development located in Carson City, Nevada.
Under general supervision, responsible for providing customer assistance and administrative and technical support for building and planning permit applications and plans, land use, land division, parcel map, zoning and related project submittals; reviews and processes applications/permits.
Individuals may choose between the following PERS Retirement plans:
Employer-Paid PERS Retirement:$24.8644 - 34.8102 hourly / $51, 717. annually
Employee/Employer-Paid PERS Retirement:$29.9961 - 41.9946 hourly / $62,391. annually

Examples of Duties
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
* Assists the public in person, by phone, and by email; answers inquiries in regard to building permits, engineering permits, plan review, inspections and discretionary permits.
* Interpret, explain, and apply relevant policies, rules, regulations, codes, and standards.
* Reviews both residential and non-residential plans and applications for completeness and general code compliance; provides contractors, architects, engineers, builders, and the general public with written and verbal general code information, guidance, and information on submittal requirements to comply with the building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes and related city regulations.
* Processes building, engineering, and planning permits and plans; ensures proper approvals, route plans to appropriate persons and departments for review and sign off and resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Tracks plans after submittal to ensure their return in a timely manner.
* Performs technical and/or specialized office support work, which may require the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills, and knowledge of detailed or specialized activities.
* Works with other departments involved in the approval process; coordinates the resolution of issues and concerns.
* Calculates fees and prepares invoices; prepares plans and documents for issuance of permits; updates plans and permit lists; informs the customer of plan-ready status.
* Collects funds, issues receipts, and balances monies received daily.
* Perform a variety of office support work, including data and computer entry and opening mail, filing, and telephone support.
* Retain plans and documents as part of the records retention requirements.
* Prepares statistical reports reflecting land development activity.
* Utilizes Assessor database, parcel pages, and other resources as appropriate.
* Prepares a variety of general correspondence to include refund request memos, forms, brief instructions, permit application letters, etc.; edits materials for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to policies and procedures.
* Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
* Represents the City with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
* Uses a variety of standard office equipment, including a personal computer, in the course of the work.
* Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
