This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with the Public Works Department located in Carson City, Nevada.Under general supervision, performs office and field work related to the enforcement of City codes and resolution of complaints related to the Landfill, Right of ways, Stormwater, Water, Wastewater, and nuisance issues.
Individuals may choose between the following PERS Retirement plans:
Employer-Paid PERS Retirement:$26.9797 - 37.7717 hourly / $56,117. annually
Employee/Employer-Paid PERS Retirement:$32.5480 - 45.5671 hourly / $67,699. annually

- Verify that commercial Landfill customers are paying the correct rates (In-County vs. Out-of-County), “clean fill” request for the landfill, and illegal dumping within the City right-of-way.
- Receives and responds to complaints regarding solid waste, storm drain blockage issues, leaf blowing, snow removal, and encroachments issues (signs, weeds, debris, unauthorized storage of personal items) within the City right-of-way.
- Investigates injury to public trees, unpermitted sidewalk/driveway repair/extension, water over usage, unauthorized hydrant usage, meter tampering, and sewer overflows from blocked or failing private laterals.
- Research property ownership and applicable codes and other documentation regarding the property in question; contacts property owners and schedules on-site inspections; interprets codes and regulations and explains codes, regulations and inspection procedures to responsible parties.
- Monitors compliance activities and conducts follow-up and final inspections.
- Establish files, maintains inspection tracking documentation and records of all notices and actions.
- Prepares a variety of written correspondence and periodic and special reports regarding work performed.
- Coordinates with Community Development Code Enforcement officer(s) regarding private property versus right-of-way issues.
- Confers with legal staff regarding potential legal action for compliance; provides documentation of action and testifies in court as required.
- Confers and coordinates activities with those of other City staff regarding code enforcement activities.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a motor vehicle to inspect properties and meet with property owners and responsible parties.
