Job Overview
Full‑time, FLSA non‑exempt position with the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court. Under general supervision, this role provides routine to difficult legal office support often confidential, including receptionist duties, document processing, typing, word processing, computer entry, record keeping, and filing.
Please note:
There is a current opening that will be filled by this recruitment. This recruitment also creates an eligibility list for future openings over a six‑month period for positions in the First Judicial District Court, Juvenile Court, and the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court.
- Employer‑Paid PERS Retirement: $24.5270 – $34.3376 hourly / $51,016.16 – $71,422.26 annually
- Employee/Employer‑Paid PERS Retirement: $29.5889 – $41.4245 hourly / $61,544.86 – $86,162.96 annually

- Assist the public as the primary customer service contact in‑person and over the telephone.
- Receive and process legal documents such as court calendars, orders, booking slips, probation reports, criminal records, petitions, proofs of service, garnishments, arrest warrants, and other legal information for maintaining records.
- Verify, code, edit, enter, and retrieve legal data and prepare reports using a computer system following established formats; may access confidential statewide data files and perform background checks.
- Review legal or court documents, arrest or incident records, probation reports, files, and cases to identify inaccurate, inconsistent, and unclear codes, data, and other information.
- Locate and return case files for docketing of all legal documents received and filed.
- Coordinate court hearings with attorneys, outside agencies, and staff.
- Check court and legal documents for proper authorization and obtain missing signatures; refer documents to the proper staff.
- Compile data from multiple sources to complete and process legal forms, documents, and reports in accordance with established procedures.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents from drafts, notes, or brief instructions; may compose standard correspondence from brief instructions; may enter and retrieve information from a computer system.
- Receive and process fees, fines or other monies; prepare receipts, balance money received; prepare reports as required.
- Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and actively participating as a team member.
- Use standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
- Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public, Court and City staff; promote a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Education and Experience
:
Equivalent to a high school diploma or GED AND two (2) years of clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
