Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Chemical Operator in Carrollton, KY who is responsible for the operation of the chemical process systems and related equipment. Inspects, monitors, and performs minor maintenance on equipment. Tests product quality in a laboratory setting.
How You Will Make an ImpactIn this role, your primary duty will be to operate the chemical process systems and related equipment. This role requires a safety mind-set, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of energy, effective time management, organization, and record-keeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:
- Model Cabot's values of integrity, respect, excellence, and responsibility. Interacts professionally with site personnel, visitors, contractors, and individuals at all levels of the Cabot organization. Follows work instructions, procedures, and policies.
- Monitor and troubleshoot the process to maintain required operating conditions.
- Assist in loading product for shipment and in unloading product or raw materials.
- Maintain and continuously improve upon knowledge of all processes and equipment.
- Performs general and predictive/preventive maintenance on process and support equipment. Uses computerized business management system to enter work orders and document work performed. Document equipment condition to establish trends in operations or breakdowns.
- Conducts quality control testing following Cabot test methods. Utilizes Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to monitor process consistency and product quality.
- Works in a safe manner. Actively participates in Cabot's safety, health, and environmental programs. Attends scheduled team meetings and completes safety training requirements. Keeps work area safe and clean.
- Actively supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care and ISO Management Systems in line with the requirements of the RC14001 and ISO
9001 technical specifications. - Completes all required reports, records, and measurements, including SH&E incident reporting, production records, lab testing results, etc.
- Works a 12 hour rotating shift schedule and overtime when required, responds to call-outs. Able to work different shift schedules with a rotating pattern as described by the site schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. A degree or certificate in Chemical Process Technology is preferred. An Associate degree in a related field or military equivalency including ETA school would be a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of chemical manufacturing experience preferred.
- Willing and able to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills. Able to work independently as well. Self-motivated with a track record of dependability including work history.
- A proven positive safety, health, and environmental record. Familiar with topics such as personal protective equipment, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work, safe work permitting, emergency response, and hazard awareness.
- Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, problem solving, process control, and process improvements. Able to read and interpret complex operating instructions.
- Accurate and consistent in performing tasks. General mechanical aptitude. Familiar with safe and effective use of basic hand tools.
- Working knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and react effectively in critical situations. Experience with accident and near miss reporting, incident investigation, and accountability to standards.
- Effective time management, organizational, and record keeping skills. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (e-mail program).
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and aerial work platforms.
- Flexible in performing changing assignments and work schedules. May be required to work off-shift hours.
