The Production Operator operates wire extruding machines and auxiliary equipment, ensuring the product meets tolerances and finishes. Duties include monitoring equipment, adjusting machine settings, ensuring product quality, and adhering to safety procedures.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED
- Machine operator experience
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety related instructions.
- Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
- Strong math skills (addition, multiplication, subtraction, division, fractions)
- Basic computer skills
- Basic troubleshooting skill is a plus
- Material handling experience is a plus
- Must have visual ability to detect colors.
- Set up extrusion, armoring, and coiling machines according to product specifications.
- Select correct machine tooling.
- Set controls to regulate temperature, speed, and thickness of PVC/Nylon on wire.
- Splice and butt weld ends of wire.
- String up machine.
- Measure and examine extruded products to locate defects and to assess conformance to specifications, adjusting controls as needed.
- Check wire for cosmetic and color quality.
- Move materials by hand, using hoists, overhead cranes, or forklifts.
- Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions.
- Perform prescribed preventive maintenance.
- Place take‑up spools into machines and adjust distributor to match spool width.
- Use precision instruments for quality testing.
- Cut wire when specified footage is wound and wrap ends by hand or mechanical tools.
- Move finished wire from take‑up by rolling reels for pickup by forklifts.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and observe all company and safety rules.
- Perform preventive and minor equipment maintenance as required.
- Update GEMBA boards as required.
- Participate in Lean scored bicycles by housekeeping and safety audits as needed.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise, humidity.
- Personal protective equipment is required during work; safety toed shoes, hearing protection, gloves, etc.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to walk for long distances.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from heights.
