Aviation Project Engineer

MDSA Aerospace has an opening for a Aviation Project Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity where

you will apply your knowledge and experience to develop modifications for aircraft and

rotorcraft for our customers.

The Aviation Project Engineer is responsible for the management of a Project design team. Tasking

includes the planning, scheduling, and coordinating of required efforts from project start to

project finish. Define tasking schedules, compliance requirements (as applicable) and required

design and substantiation activities. Collaborate effectively to provide accurate communication

of product configuration from Engineering to other stakeholder departments. Primary

communication tools include engineering drawing creation and updates, engineering document

releases for product build/ installation, shop order creation, material and process specification

documents.

• Create, review and update 2D drawings and 3D models to assure they meet contract specifications, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
• Review and release materials from engineering and confirm that all needed features are well defined and classified for downstream fabrication, assembly, and inspection operations.
• Development of engineering standard work processes and procedures, as well as innovate solutions to complex problems.
• Create & maintain Engineering schedules. When required, create statements of work for and manage engineering outsource partners.
• Tracking milestones, keeping status reports updated, and leading our customer meetings
• Performing on-site physical surveys to define design constraints and verify the actual aircraft configuration before we start engineering
• Managing the creation and release of critical cert docs, including test plans, and stress reports
• Handling the technical data flow between us, the customers, and our vendors (managing the shared folders and version control)
• Ensuring formal release of documents making sure we have all the right sign-offs and that everything is archived properly
• Working across different teams (design, stress, electrical, and production) to make sure everyone is aligned on the latest mods and configuration changes
• Selecting and calling out aerospace-grade materials, fasteners and finishes
• Digging through manuals, TCs, ACs and industry standards documents data to find "source of truth" and appropriate applicable sections for reference
• Conduct primary review of drawings and implementation of critical characteristics.
• Mentor young engineers for design for manufacturing/assembly and proper drawing/drafting practices to minimize preparation times and cost.
• Provide liaison support for mechanical and structural development and installation.
• Mentor the engineering team to explain/teach geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Define personnel training and tool requirements to meet final product quality.
• Support the organization by creating proposals, Customer Specific SOW, Completion Specifications, as applicable to comprehensively define the Project/Product and to support business opportunities.
• Ability to travel to support meetings as necessary.
• Schedule and chair product design reviews at critical stages of development.
• Provide timely communications on significant issues and/or project developments to Management.
• Ensure completeness and quality of deliverables.
• Develop instructions, procedures, and recommendations for design/modification/installation and repair work.
• Apply area of specialty to design, develop and implement creative and innovative solutions to complex problems.
