Role DescriptionThis is a full‑time on‑site role for a Project Engineer I at Hodges, Harbin, Newberry & Tribble, Inc. in Carrollton, GA. The Project Engineer I will be responsible for working with the Project Manager and Project Engineer II to develop and implement engineering solutions to project needs. Performs a variety of tasks which are intended to provide experience and interaction with higher‑level staff, methods, practices, programs, and culture of the corporation.
For training and developmental purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a Project Engineer II. Prepares, or assists in the preparation of, engineering documents, details, schedules, or reports as assigned. This position will be responsible for development / design of civil and environmental projects and requires independent judgement regarding the overall design. The purpose of this position is to provide professional, technical day‑to‑day support and input.
This is a developmental position in which the engineer learns to apply theoretical knowledge to practical application.
Graduation from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) college or university with a degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and Professional Registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT). Advanced knowledge and experience using computer‑aided design and drafting (AutoCAD and Soft Desk), spreadsheets (MS Excel) and word processing programs (MS Word). Advanced knowledge and experience in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering. Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer aided drafting.
Continuously learning process by attending in‑house seminars and continuing education opportunities outside of office. Completion of the Engineer‑in‑Training exam is required.
Assist the Project Manager in the development and design of civil and environmental projects which consist of the plans, specifications, and estimates. Develop feasible design alternatives and compare significant parameters such as typical sections, project layout, grading, and drainage calculations. This position requires the constant use of independent judgment in completing engineering drawings, calculations, etc. which are reviewed by a Project Manager or higher to ensure the work conforms to the overall design parameters.
Consult with the Project Manager in the review of detailed plans, specifications and estimate of cost to ensure conformity with the project scope and design standards. Review design details and coordinate technical recommendations, assess the cost‑effective constructability of the project, and generally evaluate the quality of the project. To provide day‑to‑day technical support, guidance, and input. Other duties as assigned.
Makes calculations, using engineering formulas and skills for design such as storm drainage, grading and piping system. Specialized drawings and calculations such as volumes, isopach grading, and graphic presentations. Research design details and document findings for Project Designer / Engineer. Provide information to Project Engineer II or Project Manager for incorporation into specifications. Review shop drawings. Research local, state, and federal regulations.
Organize and maintain project files. Maintain neat and organized work area which allows efficient access to information required by other team members. Assure that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards. Keep Project Manager informed of work load and any changes in project scope or additional services.
