Position Summary
The EHS Specialist will report to the Senior EHS Manager and support the Carrollton Cable and NWS plants in Carrollton, GA. This role is responsible for strengthening the site’s safety culture by influencing safe behaviors, building strong relationships with employees and frontline leaders, and promoting a proactive approach to workplace safety and employee wellbeing. The EHS Specialist will maintain a visible presence in the manufacturing environment, partnering with operations to identify and reduce risk, support continuous improvement, and reinforce a safety‑conscious mindset at all levels of the organization.
This role is critical to supporting Lightera Carrollton’s journey toward a proactive, employee‑owned safety culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Candidates actively pursuing a degree will be considered. Equivalent documented Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands‑on experience performing Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities in a manufacturing, industrial, or operational environment.
- Qualifying EHS experience includes hazard identification and risk assessments, safety inspections or audits, incident investigation support, employee safety training, regulatory compliance support, or participation in site EHS programs.
- Experience gained solely through production, maintenance, engineering, or supervisory roles will be considered qualifying only if the role included documented, direct Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) responsibilities.
- Foundational knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety principles, with a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth in EHS.
- Progress toward or interest in pursuing CSP, CIH, or other recognized EHS certifications.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement concepts.
- Experience with safety committees, KY(危険予知, Kiken Yochi) activities, safety observations, or employee engagement initiatives.
- Support and promote Environmental, Health & Safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company requirements.
- Actively influence safe behaviors through regular floor presence, employee engagement, and safe work observations.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and Gemba Walks; lead KY(危険予知, Kiken Yochi) activities and ensure follow‑up on corrective actions.
- Develop, update, and implement EHS procedures and policies, including machine safety, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and industrial hygiene programs.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, and other teams to implement practical, cross‑functional safety improvements.
- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis; track corrective actions to completion.
- Coordinate and deliver EHS training and provide technical safety guidance to all departments.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response planning.
- Track and communicate safety performance trends and improvement opportunities.
- Continuously develop technical EHS knowledge and leadership capability through training and hands‑on learning.
- Working knowledge of EHS principles in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence without authority.
