Job Summary

The College of Education (COE) HUGS Student Ambassador serves as part of the Hospitality, Ushering, Greeting, and Support (HUGS) team within the College of Education. This role enhances the student experience by providing high-quality customer service, way finding assistance, and peer support throughout the Education Annex. Ambassadors help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Hospitality (H):
    Support student engagement through peer programming, wellness activities, and community-building events.
  • Provide feedback to faculty on co-curricular and extracurricular initiatives and student-centered programming within the COE.
  • Serve as a COE ambassador during recruitment events, open houses, and student showcases.
  • Ushering (U):
    Learn and maintain knowledge of the COE building layout, including classrooms, offices, resources, and ADA-accessible pathways.
  • Provide real-time way finding assistance to students, visitors, families, and community partners.
  • Report signage needs, accessibility concerns, or navigational challenges to COE leadership.
  • Greeting (G):
    Serve as the first point of contact for individuals entering the Education Annex.
  • Create a warm, welcoming environment aligned with COE values.
  • Assist with visitor check-in, event navigation, and general inquiries.
  • Support (S):
    Provide light administrative support (e.g., copying, organizing materials, distributing flyers, updating bulletin boards).
  • Assist peers by sharing information on academic resources, study strategies, and campus services (not formal tutoring unless trained).
  • Support special projects, event setup, and student outreach efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled at the University of West Georgia in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • Must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
  • Must be Federal Work Study eligible.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide courteous, professional customer service.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and accountability.
  • Willingness to learn COE spaces, resources, and student support pathways.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • On-campus role requiring standing, walking, and light movement during shifts or events.
  • Occasional light lifting of materials.
  • Indoor academic setting.
  • Reasonable accommodations available.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in education, counseling, speech-language pathology, or related fields.
  • Experience in customer service, peer mentoring, or campus engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Prior experience is helpful but not required.
