Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, replace, adjust and modify company vehicles, vans, pick‑up trucks, tractors, trailers and refrigeration, air conditioning and temperature control equipment. Perform structural metal repair and painting of tractors and trailers, and conduct road service and preventive maintenance following standard accepted methods and procedures, ensuring all safety and quality standards are met. Provide guidance to Mechanic, Fleet Helper. Communicate and interact with co‑workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and timely.
Work as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company.
- Review work schedule, perform safety check on equipment and obtain supplies before operations. Work from preventive maintenance schedules, checklists, manuals and specifications.
- Perform regular tractor inspections, complete checklists, troubleshoot and make routine repairs. Repair engine, transmission, steering, ignition, electrical and hydraulic systems, air conditioning, refrigeration controls and units, clutches, brakes and mechanical or electrical operating units on tractors and trailers.
- Service and repair refrigeration units, replace tubing, condensers, thermal controls and recharge units with approved refrigerant gas.
- Perform brake jobs, change and rotate tires, recharge batteries, diagnose engines, front end and transmission. Prepare undercarriage for repainting and complete painting tasks on trim and wheel rims.
- Repair damage inside and outside trailers, patch sheet aluminum, install gaskets, replace or install grab bars, reflectors, decals, graphics, rebuild 5th wheels and replace worn parts.
- Repair ramps, ladders, tripods and construct new cargo bars.
- Maintain records, checklists and reports; keep garage tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Perform other similar or related operations as assigned or directed. Secure all equipment, complete housekeeping duties and required paperwork at end of shift.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Training in truck/automotive maintenance; proficiency with drawings, specifications, charts, meters and diagnostic equipment.
- Universal 608 Certification is required.
