Overview
Principal - Elementary School at Community Unit School District 300. The building principal is responsible for setting and leading the vision to achieve and sustain high levels of student achievement. The principal’s role is to inspire, lead, guide, and direct every member of the building’s instructional and support services teams, providing instructional leadership and organizational management to support the educational development of each student in alignment with national, state, and local goals and requirements.

The principal sets and works to achieve the highest standards of excellence by strategically implementing the school’s mission through effective leadership of all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community. The principal plans, develops, implements, leads, and evaluates the building’s progress towards achieving the District’s vision and strategic direction. The principal oversees all aspects of the instructional program, the school environment, and the operational/fiscal health of the school.
The Principal shall focus all available resources on students reaching their potential as self-directed learners and responsible citizens. The Principal shall spend a minimum of fifty-one (51) percent of his/her time on instruction.
- Execute the district mission that all students will be college or career ready upon graduation at the building level
- Strategically develop, implement, and evaluate actions to achieve the vision of the school and District 300’s Strategic Plan
- Articulate, advocate, and cultivate core values that define the school’s culture and stress child-centered education; high expectations and student support; equity, inclusiveness, and social justice; openness, caring, and trust; and continuous improvement
- Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions
- Lead with interpersonal and communication skills, social-emotional insight, and understanding of all students’ and staff members’ backgrounds and cultures

- Ensure equitable access to effective teachers and resources necessary for success
- Develop student policies and address student misconduct in a positive, fair, and unbiased manner
- Act with cultural competence and responsiveness in interactions, decision-making, and practice
- Organize, administer, and supervise the instructional program within the school
- Ensure staff design coherent instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, current practices, students, and goals
- Promote intellectually challenging instructional and assessment practices that are authentic to student experiences, differentiated, and personalized
- Promote effective use of technology in teaching and learning
- Create a school environment where each student is known, accepted, valued, trusted, respected, cared for, and encouraged to be an active participant
- Maintain a safe, caring, and healthy environment meeting academic, social, emotional, and physical needs
- Implement district discipline expectations in collaboration with District level administration
- Recruit, hire, develop, and retain effective and diverse staff; form them into an educationally effective faculty
- Empower teachers and staff to high levels of professional practice and continuous learning
- Provide an effective staff development program aligned with evaluation results and improvement plans
- Develop workplace conditions that promote professional development and student learning
- Foster a professional culture with high expectations, ethical practice, trust, collaboration, and continuous learning
