Outreach is a Christian community service organization providing counseling, case management, youth development, older adult service, and community development. For 50 years, Outreach has changed the lives of thousands of individuals, children, youth, and families in DuPage County, IL, and we are seeking to hire a diverse staff of highly competent professional employees to pursue Outreach's mission to restore hope and provide opportunities for people to become all that God intends them to be.
Outreach is hiring a Full-time Junior High Literacy Teacher at Outreach Carol Stream to support students academically and develop life skills during our summer program.
Schedule- Staff Training – June 1 to June 5 (MANDATORY)
- Program Dates – June 8 to July 31
- Program Schedule – Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- $20.00 - $23.50/hour - Based on education, experience, and language ability.

- The Junior High Literacy Teacher is responsible for teaching a classroom of up to 25 students in the summer day camp program.
- The Junior High Literacy Teacher is responsible for providing classroom instruction, conducting individual academic assessments and setting goals for student improvement, supporting other teachers as a classroom aide when not leading Literacy classes, and collaborating with the staff team to supervise students during weekly summer field trips.
- The Junior High Literacy Teacher is responsible for lesson planning and maintaining Outreach's standard of classroom behavior during program time.
- BA in Education, Social Work, English, or a related field.
- A passion for working with junior high students.
- Classroom or group experience with adolescents focused on language arts or literacy.
- Previous classroom teaching or group experience.
- Previous experience with curriculum development and lesson planning is strongly preferred.
- A passion for reading and the ability to engage and motivate junior high students to read.
- Experience with and sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, high-risk families.
- Bilingual (Spanish/ English) is a plus.
- A current, valid IL driver's license, along with a good driving record, is required.
