Position summary

World Relief Chicagoland’s Adult Education program serves adult English learners at all stages of language learning. During in-person classes in Lombard, parents may bring young children to participate in Early Childhood Learning programming focused on family literacy and kindergarten readiness. The Early Childhood Education Manager leads the classroom and manages the Early Childhood Learning team (Assistant Instructor, volunteers, practicum students). The role ensures high-quality instruction aligned to Illinois State Readiness Measures and maintains a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, nurturing, language-rich environment for children ages 0–5.

The role also handles program data tracking, reporting, and documentation to support grant funding and measure progress in child development and family literacy outcomes. It connects staff and volunteers with immigrant and refugee families, ensuring a welcoming environment and holistic family support.

This is a part-time position for 32 hours per week. Hybrid schedule:
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 8AM–1PM at the LIFT Center in Lombard; one day per week in Carol Stream at the WR Office; the rest from home.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff, including monitoring daily activities, approving timesheets and time off, tracking performance, entering goals and progress, and documenting performance concerns. Manage staff transitions in the HRIS within the required timeframe. Lead staff in a manner consistent with World Relief’s Christian values, including prayer, devotionals, and fostering a Christian environment.
  • Instructional leadership & classroom management – Serve as lead instructor, prepare and deliver multi-level daily lesson plans using the WR Early Childhood Curriculum; align instruction with Illinois State Readiness Measures; integrate motor activities into a language-rich, play-based environment; foster social-emotional learning and English development; model best practices for Assistant Instructor, volunteers, and practicum students; guide instructional staff in using materials and strategies.
  • Team supervision & volunteer management – Supervise the Assistant Instructor; train, schedule, and coach volunteers and practicum students; ensure adequate daily staffing; evaluate practicum students; coordinate coverage when volunteers are absent; foster a positive, collaborative team environment with cultural humility and learner-centered practices.
  • Family literacy & parent engagement – Build trusting relationships with parents; update on child progress; discuss child development, safety, nutrition, and hygiene; support immigrant and refugee families navigating the U.S. education system; liaise between Early Childhood and Adult Education staff for whole-family support.
