Overview
Electrical Harness and installation Engineer responsible for designing, routing, and installing electrical harnesses for aerospace systems—from concept through to certification and production. Translate system requirements into wiring solutions that work, fit, and can be built and maintained reliably. Work will touch every part of the aircraft, including avionics, power systems, sensors, and lighting. Collaborate with systems engineers, mechanical design teams, and manufacturing to ensure designs are technically solid and physically feasible.
Responsibilities- Design and develop 2D schematics and 3D harness routing using tools like CATIA V5, Siemens NX, or similar
- Create wire diagrams, connector tables, harness BOMs, and installation drawings
- Ensure designs meet aerospace standards (AS50881, ARP
4754, DO-160, etc.) - Route harnesses through complex mechanical structures and resolve clashes or fit issues
- Select appropriate wire types, shielding, back shells, connectors, and environmental protections
- Support EMI/EMC compliance by working closely with systems and test teams
- Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure harnesses are buildable and meet quality requirements
- Drive resolution of installation issues during build or testing phases
- Maintain configuration control and document traceability across design changes
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in aerospace harness or installation design
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools for harness routing (CATIA V5 Electrical, NX, or similar)
- Solid understanding of aerospace wiring standards, wire types, and harness components
- Familiarity with system-level requirements and how they map to harness design
- Strong documentation and communication skills—clear, direct, and technically accurate
- Comfortable working in cross-functional teams and handling real-world constraints
- Experience with aircraft certification (FAA, EASA)
- Knowledge of EWIS compliance and documentation
- Exposure to power distribution systems, flight control wiring, or RF harnessing
- Hands-on experience with harness manufacturing or troubleshooting on the shop floor
