Responsibilities
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA Health.
  • Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health‑care organization policies, including cardiovascular, respiratory, airway, neurological, hemodynamic, pain and comfort, and mental status.
  • Interpret information accurately from various non‑invasive and invasive monitors.
  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
  • Explain the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
  • Apply and document relevant scoring systems and discharge criteria (e.g., Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score, PADSS, White score) as defined by organizational policy.
  • Develop and implement individualized perianesthesia plans of care, including interventions for pain and comfort management, medication safety, wound maintenance, system status maintenance, normothermia, infection prevention, co‑morbidity management, fluid balance, education, patient advocacy, and privacy protection.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes.
  • Transfer care as needed and provide concise, accurate hand‑off reports.
  • Delegate tasks in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act and other regulatory requirements.
  • Document nursing care completely, accurately, and legibly.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality review, performance improvement, and performance appraisal processes.
  • Use problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships and maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum one year of pre‑operative or PACU experience.
  • Medical/surgical nursing experience.
  • Current state licensure in good standing.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
  • Completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
  • Completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days if pediatric care is included in the facility scope, or current certification.
