Position Overview

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) seeks a senior, relationship-driven Director of Development to partner with leadership in shaping the organization’s philanthropic future. This role is ideal for a development professional familiar with the Carmel philanthropic community and motivated by building sustainable development capacity over time.

The Director of Development will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development Committee in a shared decision-making environment to define fundraising priorities, strategies, and pacing that support artistic excellence, financial sustainability, and thoughtful growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead individual, corporate, foundation, and event-based fundraising efforts
  • Personally cultivate and steward mid- and major-level donors
  • Co-develop fundraising priorities and multi-year strategies with leadership
  • Build long-term donor relationships and stewardship experiences
  • Strengthen development systems, tracking, and reporting
  • Mobilize board members and volunteers as fundraising partners
  • Serve as a visible ambassador within the Carmel philanthropic community

Qualifications
  • Progressive fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated success with individual donors
  • Familiarity with Carmel philanthropy preferred
  • Collaborative leadership style
  • Strong communication and relationship skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE or advanced degree a plus
